It’s That Time of Year Again for Holiday Appliance Maintenance
The hustle and bustle of the holidays are fast approaching, and with the upcoming celebrations come all the trappings of a tradition- and memory-filled season. Those memories encompass all the favorite sights, sounds, and smells of the season like a roasting turkey, decorating dozens of holiday cookies, sleeping under the perfectly lit Christmas tree, and even the smell when the furnace ignites for the first time.
It’s the not-planned-for moments, like a broken kitchen appliance or a faulty water heater, that can put a damper on those beloved traditions. When it comes to appliances most likely to break down, in a survey of more than 381,000 appliances, Consumer Reports reported that 11 percent of people said their dishwasher stopped working correctly, while 5 percent of refrigerators and 6 percent of ranges were next on the breakdown list.
Household dilemmas don’t have to ruin your holiday festivities. By following these three tips , adding some holiday appliance maintenance to your holiday checklist, your festivities can be magical for you and your loved ones.
Deep Clean to Prevent Breakdowns
If it’s your year to host the holiday dinner or you’re planning on a small, socially distanced party, you are likely planning on some deep-cleaning. As you create that cleaning checklist, consider adding your most-used appliances to the cleaning lineup.
Allot some time before your event to pull the fridge away from the wall and clean out the dust from the mechanical coils . Scrub your oven and stovetop, too, making sure the heating elements or gas burners heat and ignite properly. And don’t forget to clean your dishwasher. Simply set a single dishwasher-safe cup of white vinegar on the top rack and run a full cycle.
Cook a Test-Run Meal
Have you been relying on DoorDash for your meals these days, not bothering to turn on the oven or dishwasher or garbage disposal? If this is the case, it’s time to test everything out before the holidays. At least a week before your holiday meal or party, bake up your favorite chicken casserole or bake up a batch of muffins. Then be sure to use that garbage disposal and load up the dishwasher to make sure those appliances work great, too. If you do notice any issues with these appliances, you’ll have plenty of time to schedule a repair before your festivities.
